The Asia Business Leader Awards 2002 is Asia's definitive awards recognising excellence in business leadership in Asia.

ABLA 2002, presented by CNBC Asia Pacific and TNT Asia, are sponsored by Citigroup Private Bank goes to Hong Kong on October 10 and 11. The awards is strongly supported by host sponsor Invest Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.

Recognising Outstanding Leadership

At a time when the global economy continues to face formidable challenges amid vigorous market changes, CNBC honours the people who have provided dynamic leadership, effective management and practical long-term vision for the companies they led.

The Asia Business Leader Awards embody the spirit of the new corporate Asia and serve to identify exceptional examples of outstanding business leadership.

The pan-regional awards seek to recognise the achievements of business leaders based in the Asia Pacific region under the theme "Growth through Leadership".

Theme

Growth through Leadership

The Asia Business Leader Awards 2002 honours the men and women who, through their foresight and courage, have led their corporation towards growth in a period of uncertainty and volatility. This growth could be reflected in sales both at home and abroad, in profits, or simply in investment in the future.

This year's ABLA theme, "Growth through Leadership", recognises leaders who have been able to achieve growth through more than just cost cutting and restructuring. At a time when the global economy faces formidable market challenges and uncertainty, these leaders have taken advantage of the opportunities that exist outside their own domestic market. Such achievements in leadership are possible only through a high degree of customer orientation supported by a strong corporate culture. The focus on "Growth" for the selection of the Asia Business Leader of the Year acknowledges the fact that without improving corporate performance, economic growth in Asia will not return or be sustained.
