Singapore, 9 September 2005 - The world leader in business news CNBC will be presenting the fourth Asia Business Leader Awards (ABLA) this November in Kuala Lumpur. The prestigious regional-wide ABLA has showcased and profiled outstanding examples of corporate leadership since its launch in 2001, and has been previously held in Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai. ABLA 2005 will be presented in association with Malaysia Airlines, Oracle and Heidrick & Struggles, a global executive search and leadership consultancy.

The following five awards will be presented at the ABLA Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner on November 9:

o Asia Business Leader of the Year - Recognizes the chief executive who is able to retain loyal customers, inspire and motivate stuff, grow profitability and make his vision for the company a reality.
o Asia Innovator of the Year - Rewards incentive thinking in business. It is based on achievements in new product development and groundbreaking business processes, business models and strategies.
o Asia Corporate Citizen of the Year - Acknowledges outstanding contributions to the arts, education, the environment and community development.
o Asia CEOs' Choice of the Year - Determined by a poll conducted with top executives throughout the region. Heads of companies will be invited to vote either by email or through the official Asia Business Leader Awards 2005 website.
o Malaysia CEO of the Year - Specially created to recognise excellence in Malaysian leadership, this award recognises an exceptional Malaysian business leader whose vision and management abilities have helped steer his company successfully in his home country and in the global marketplace.

ABLA 2005 winners will be selected through a unique three-phase judging process, based on a combination of criteria including financial performance, leadership, creativity and innovation, and social responsibility. The independent panel of judges - who comprise world-respected management strategists, academics, corporate personalities and senior journalists - evaluate candidates with a focus on their ability to create short-term advantages, long-term value, competitive edge and the demonstration of leadership in the business community.

The judging panel is led by Professor Mark E Zmijewski, Dean of Executive MBA programs, University of Chicago Graduate School of Business (GSB). Other members of the panel include Yusli Mohamed Yusoff, Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia, Professor Suchada Kiranandana, President of Chulalongkorn University in Thailand, Kyong Shik Kang, Former Deputy Prime Minister of South Korea, and Phillip Overmyer, Executive Director of the Singapore International Chamber of Commerce.

Alexander P Brown, President & CEO, CNBC Asia Pacific, said: "Malaysia's economy is one of the most vibrant in Southeast Asia, the result of decades of industrial growth, prudent leadership and political stability. Hosting this year's ABLA in Malaysia represents CNBC's commitment to the business community in Malaysia. We look forward to celebrating the best in dynamic leadership and corporate excellence as we countdown to the grand finale this November in Kuala Lumpur."

Professor Mark E Zmijewski, Dean of Executive MBA programs, University of Chicago Graduate School of Business (GSB) and Lead Judge, said: "The ABLA 2005 will recognise business leaders who have successfully steered their companies on the path to success by inspiring their employees to confront today's business challenges and by preparing them to identify and capture the opportunities that await them in this era of globalisation. These outstanding business leaders know the value of keeping abreast of the latest innovations in business management to create and execute new business models that adjust to the ever-changing business environment. ABLA 2005 will salute those leaders throughout Asia who have effectively energised their companies to seize opportunities, laid the foundation for strong corporate governance, and developed a healthy corporate culture and community."
